Hello there, and thanks for checking out my blog! My name is Helene, I’m originally from Denmark but have been making a home in Brighton, UK for the past 8 years.
I love Formula 1. But I didn’t always. In fact I spent the majority of my life thinking driving around in a circle to be clapped by super models and showered in champagne was a waste of time and money. My ex was moderately into Formula 1 and I used to hate Sundays which would see him grunting and shouting at the television displaying aerial views of cars driving round and round and round and nothing much else seemed to be happening.
Then I met Ben. He is my current partner and in addition to being a football supporter he is also into motorsport. Needless to say, I was not impressed by his two favourite past times.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I can be a little sarcastic and I’m not too proud to admit that my way of dealing with being stuck watching Formula 1 on the sofa every Sunday was to ask sarcastic questions. A lot. Now instead of getting annoyed with me, Ben responded with endless patience and informative answers. By September, I was actually enjoying watching the races, and with my newfound knowledge of rules, tactics, strategies and driver dynamics they seemed to consists of many more layers.
There are hundreds of sites out there dedicated to discussing every detail of F1, but none of them which takes the time to explain the basics, so unless you know someone who understands what is going on and who likes explaining it to you it can be pretty tough finding brands and tails. Even if you can deal with the occasional testosterone overload.
As a result I started female-f1.com hoping to get more people, especially women, interested in F1 by writing about the sport without the testosterone ego I’ve seen on other blogs.
